A proposed bill to ban higher auto and property insurance rates for those living in Detroit, Michigan and surrounding areas failed in the Senate recently according to the article “Bill to Ban Higher Insurance Rates In Detroit Fails” by Karen Bouffard.
The Senate brought the bill for a vote by Sen. Martha G. Scott, D-Highland Park, who urged Congress to pass the bill. She said the state of Michigan pays the 12th highest auto insurance rates, but in the urban area it’s the highest in the country. Sen. Alan Sanborn, R-Richmond believes the ban would increase rates for people who live in non-urban areas.
The new bill could result in higher auto insurance rates for 3 out of 4 Michigan drivers according to Sanborn. He believes there needs to be another way to solve the high cost of Michigan auto insurance. As many people are struggling in this economy, auto insurance costs are becoming challenging for many residents. Hopefully something can be worked out to help make auto insurance more affordable for all.

Now, the fact that the woman had been driving for as long as 30 years and, despite being linguistically (I hope I am spelling this damned word right!)challenged, kept her license intact for all these years without killing or maiming herself or others is a concrete proof that she must be a darn good driver. In any event, her driving record seems to be far better than that of the former First Lady, Laura Bush who, despite being born to English-speaking parents and provided with good English education (she even wrote a book in English for children during her White House days, remember), on one fateful day during her tumultuous youth, ran a prominently visible STOP sign, killed her class-mate who was also reportedly a former boy-friend and who had the right of way and got away scot-free without being given a traffic ticket! Now, it must be recognized on all sides that making a u-turn, legal or otherwise, on a busy street is the fundamental birth-right of every full-blooded American, born or naturalized (even Barack Obama qualifies for this privilege despite the prevalence of lingering doubts about his eligibility for being the Prez of this great country!). This right to make illegal u-turn (as long as you are not caught while doing it) is as fundamental as the right to carry an assault rifle, a sub-machine-gun or a grenade launcher (as long as you don't use it without provocation) granted to every US citizen under the Constitution.
